Task: Start date and deadline

Do you plan to add start date and deadline to the tasks? That would be really useful.

Hi Emese,

yes, we do. Any suggestion on how we could do it? We have some ideas but the design is not yet finalized, so your input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Since IMHO all tasks need these dates, it could be the 4th mandatory element after who, do and what. For me the simplest way to choose a date is picking it from a calendar (this needs no parser). In case of the deadline, I can choose only a later day than the start date, so it would be useful, if the calendar would show the start date, when I open it to choose the deadline. There are softwares (like Confluence) which always show the date today, so I have to page a lot to define the deadline.
Sometimes a "Latest estimate" date is useful. But it's only important, if the task is not ready (or it seems that it needs more work) till the deadline, and I think a comment is needed in these cases.
The follow up would be easy, if I could get notifications of the deadlines. These can be easily forgotten :) It would be really great if I could set up the frequency of the notifications myself. The frequency could be weekly or in case of a longer task, monthly. But there is another way e.g. x days before the deadline. Both can be good.
If I open the Memo, in which there are tasks close to deadline, a kind of warning could be given. The simplest is to the task red, or mark it with an exclamation mark or something :)

I hope I could help a bit.

I forgot the case, where there are tasks depending on each other. The start date of the following task should be modified to the date of the latest estimate of the previous task, but not automatically. The permission of the owner (@who) is needed of course.
Thanks Emese for sharing your ideas.

We already had both deadlines and dependencies in our mind, it seems your thinking is quite close to ours. :)

We will keep you posted on the progress.
